Chimera

A Poem

Like morning dew upon a leaf,
he refreshed my soul.

Like a balm upon a sprain,
he soothed my grief.

Erect upon my trembling hinds, I stood.
Until he swept me from my feet,
left me reeling in a drunken stagger.

I remembered my name this time,
for he called it,
no one had before.

Like the sun, he shone,
and in his brilliance
I saw the gemstone I am.

He drew me to his bosom, close enough
to reach his heart.
I lingered there long, and
a little longer.

Like the cool breath of an ocean wind,
he quieted the demons within me.
Serenity,
tranquil, paradise.

Safe in his stalwart arms,
I was home, a dwelling to time indefinite.

His charm left me gasping,
his adoration brought me to my knees.
The deliberate measure of his stride
made me twitch,
and I could not help
but obey his call.

To him, like a mad sheep, I ran.

When I woke up,
like a whisper dissolving in the dark,
he was gone.
And the gloom of a rainy day
took root in my chest.
